The Giver

How could a community be so superficial and have so many rules. Reading The Giver all I can think is how ridiculous this world is because of the specific age groups, specific rules for each group and how everyone is placed. The one thing that got me the most is I love children and knowing that Gabe could be "released" breaks my heart and makes me want to keep the child myself.
How do you not love?
How do you not question things?
No touching. No pleasure. No pain.
I guess learning in a world where there is despair and love and trust and sadness, you might have a different outlook on it. Even though it hurts to learn from your scars and your sorrows, it builds you and makes you human.
To live without them would be crazy.
It'd be like being retaught everything you've already learned, just backwards and different.
Not a concept I could probably grasp very easily. :/

  1. This is just what a good blog post should be--thought-provoking and opinionated. We get a strong sense of how you feel about the novel. No pleasure and no pain, plus not questioning things is not a "perfect" way of life, but seems "crazy" like you say here.

I like your concept of being retaught everything backwards. Nice description of there "upside down world."
