Childhood in a tree poem

Childhood.
What is a place without nothing there.
No tree to tall.
No leaf laying limp.
To be as strong as steel. But burned away with a match.
It's peace to be taken.
Happiness to be earned.
Shadows creep.
Fear in every corner.
Childhood.
You wonder where the tears go to hide.
That your backyard is your adventure.
Run Away.
Trees are home, comfort, hugs.
If it's there to give you shade.
Fruit.
Flowers.
A Treehouse.
It's there. And it's there to remind you of those tears you shed.
Those smiles you've shared.
And memories made.
Take it.
Childhood.
Just think of the tree, down the hill to climp upon.
:)

  2. I like everything about this poem Tracy. I found your layout and design very effective. I like the variation in font styles and sizes. It all works as part of your message and brings together your ideas. Well done/lm

  3. Celeste--to make a text to text connection--in fact this poem reminds me of the first paragraph of your photo essay (with the photo of the girl and the label "and then she grew up.") If you haven't yet read that post Tracy, check it out.

Yep, there are lots of connections to be made here, even between student writing. Text/text text/self...it's not just a theory in a book! You guys are making it happen. Good stuff all around! :-)

  4. Thank you Tracy. I really enjoy this poem. It unfolds very gently and reminds me of being a child. I, personally am in love with trees. I wonder if they feel, I wonder if they think. You have sparked my thoughts and brought emotion to my tear ducts.

  5. I really liked this poem, Tracey! Incredibly well written, and I loved how you used different fonts to express each individual word! It really helped put more energy and life into the poem. Thank you for thinking of that! Because it really gave the poem a cool, different, edge! - Emily
