The book Tuesday's with Morrie had a lot of meaning and depth. Morrie, an old man with ALS, tells Mitch, a young man too wrapped up in success and his life, how to live and love. The book is about dying and how Morrie express how people don't pay attention to dying and life and the world around them. It has a lot of morals and themes to get across peoples minds. To me, this book really opened my eyes to fear and thinking about dying. My favorite part was maybe when Morrie talked about the wave. The wave was free and happy just going through the ocean, doing what he was suppose to be doing. Then, when he saw the shore he was scared and screamed about crashing on the shore. Then the other wave came and said that's what we do, we're part of the ocean(179-180). What I like about the wave is he's part of this world, the ocean, doing what he believes he's suppose to be doing. Then one day, death sneaks up on him, crashing on the shore and disenegrating in the sand. No one remembers the poor wave, he's now just part of the sea. Although, the twist is with every crashing wave dying, another is reborn to continue the cycle. To live, do their job and die.
We are sort of like that wave. We are all created and have a purpose in life to do something with our life. Then death sneaks up on us and we die. Our soul goes on but we are one with the earth. Forgotten or not, we were there at one point. Morrie points out many times that you can't run from death, you have to accept it, just like life. Then when we detach ourselves from the pain and eveything else, we can move on peacefully.
Tuesday's With Morrie is a powerful and moving book. It's about life, love, death, fear and many other lessons. Reading this book you learn new things and look at the world with a little bit of a different perspective. Without reading it, you just keep going on with your life.
I personally think everyone should read it at least once. :)
Nice wrap-up in your final paragraph.
